The acquisition, first noticed by TechCrunch(Opens in a new window), was announced in a very low-key way: with a short statement above the tutorial section. “I’m pleased to announce that Quordle has been acquired by Merriam-Webster! I can’t think of a better home for this game. Lots of new features and fun are coming so stay tuned,” the statement says.

The game is now hosted on Merriam-Webster’s site instead of its own site, and the new site features a small Merriam-Webster logo. Quordle is also featured prominently on Merriam-Webster’s homepage.

Merriam-Webster is an American publisher that focuses on reference books and dictionaries. It is itself owned by Encyclopaedia Britannica, which acquired it in 1964.

Notably, it’s been almost exactly one year since The New York Times acquired Wordle, the game that started the six-letter word game craze. And in July 2022, a music variant of Wordle called Heardle was acquired by Spotify.

As for hints on how to beat today’s Quordle game, we’ve got you covered.
