Coronation of King Charles III: New details released by Buckingham Palace, including a star-studded concert

Buckingham Palace released new details on Saturday of King Charles III’s coronation celebration over the May weekend, which will include a star-studded TV concert at Windsor Palace.

The festivities will begin with the coronation of Charles and Queen Consort Camilla at Westminster Abbey on the morning of May 6 (where of Queen Elizabeth II funeral took place), which will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The palace called it a “solemn religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry”.

“As previously announced, the service will reflect the role of the monarch today and look to the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry,” the palace said in a statement.

It is expected to be a more lighthearted event compared to the late Queen’s coronation in 1953.

The King and Queen Consort will arrive from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey in the ‘King’s Procession’ and then return to the Palace in the larger ‘Coronation Procession’ which will include members of the Royal Family.

The Royal Family will then appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to wrap up the day’s events.

The palace gave no information on whether Prince Harry, who promotes her book ‘Spare’, which is highly critical of the royal family, or Meghan Markle will be attending the coronation or one of its surrounding events.

Harry declined to say whether he would accept an invitation to the coronation in a recent interview, saying, “There’s a lot that can happen between now and then. But the door is still open. The ball is in their court.”

The palace did not specify which members of the royal family will be present. Prince Harry declined in a recent interview to say if he would attend his father's coronation.

The concert will also have an orchestra, dancers, a coronation choir made up of community choirs from across the country, and “sequences of spoken word delivered by stars of stage and screen.”
